I got an email from Daniel Pozzobon in Brazil a while ago. He asked if I could build a small table on which he can use his notebook computer in bed. He says his town get very cold in the winter and he likes to stay in bed using his laptop. The problem is that it is not a good idea to use a laptop on the blankets; it can cause overheating.
Really this is just a breakfast-in-bed tray. Eating meals in bed is not something that has ever thrilled me, but the idea of a laptop tray is appealing. So maybe it should just be simply called a bed tray.

Since I wont have any new woodworking projects until January, I thought Id post this video today. Ive been working on it for almost a year.
I thought it would be interesting to shoot a photo of myself in my shop every day and make a time-lapse video. The main thing I learned is that it is very difficult to stay dedicated to taking a picture every day. It might have been easier if I had a dedicated camera set-up. Instead, I marked off three circles on the floor where my tripod would go each day.
Another problem was maintaining a consistent exposure each day with my Sony Cybershot camera. I shot each picture at different times of the day and used the flash on all of them. It didnt take me long to decide I wasnt going to worry about it and let the exposures vary. I didnt want to spend more than a few seconds each day on this.
Shortly into the year I decided to make reference to each weekly woodworking project I was building. Again, I didnt always remember to do that, but you should be able to see some of them. I also tried to use an expression that reflected how I was feeling on each day.
What I find the most interesting about this video is watching my tools move around on the pegboard behind me. I find it hypnotic!

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a good weekend. Dont forget to drop by tomorrow for the second installment of The Inspiration Project. Until then, here are a few viewer projects Ive been meaning to show off for a long time.
Lets start off with a couple of shop projects, since I am in the planning stages of a shop project for this weeks show. Heres one that has always been on my to-do list: a miter saw station. Thomas Queen cleverly incorporated an old file cabinet into his.

Tony in Arizona made this version of my rolling lumber cart, expanding it here and there. This is one of those projects that I wished I had built years ago. So handy.

Moving into the back yard, we have a couple of planter boxes. 11-year-old Matthew Duffin did a great job building my $20 planter box from last year. Love the contrasting colors.

A lot of people have made my Jetsons retro wall clock. If you are brand new to woodworking, its a good project to start out with. It doesnt require any expensive tools or fine wood. There are no complicated joints to make. The shapes and sizes of the pieces are not critical, so feel free to cut outside the lines. And paint it any colors you like! Matteo Scalon made two, one for his sons room and one for his daughters. He included numbers to help them learn to tell time.
